Replete with catchy hooks, massive horns, crunchy guitar and above all well crafted songs “Soldier Woman,” the debut album from Jump Babylon, weaves together country-rock tales of the immigrant experience, reggae paraphrasing of liturgical poetry and power anthems of biblical proportions. Jump Babylon was founded in 2011 by members of Shtreiml, Montreal’s veterans of the New Jewish Music scene and pioneers of bringing scorching klezmer to bars, festivals and concert halls across North America and Europe. “This project gives us an opportunity to get back to our rock and roll roots." says Jason Rosenblatt the band’s producer and composer whose gospel and New Orleans inspired piano and organ is peppered throughout the album. Indeed Jump Babylon performs an unrelenting set of in your face roots and rock. With songs that hearken to the heavier side of Neil Young, the gospel tinged music of Van Morrison, and even the ska numbers of The Cat Empire. Jump Babylon’s front man Adam Stotland propels the group with his powerful yet soulful vocals and searing guitar. “For a long time now we’ve been playing high-energy rock at clubs and weddings. We were playing Phish, Neil Young and Van Morrison juxtaposed with Chassidic music ” says Adam. “We felt it was time to begin a new project that reflected this aspect of our music, and so Jump Babylon was born.”
